Turkey treats

Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful! Olivia spearheaded this little project...I believe she's inherited her grandma's crafty gene. Crackers & various candies, stuck together with white frosting. They made for a cute treat to take to our Mehmen family Thanksgiving :)

Today is my birthday! This blog has been rather quiet the past year, but if you're still here reading I'd appreciate it if you'd leave a comment just to let me know you're still here. Consider it a birthday present :) (If you're reading this on Facebook, no need to leave a comment...I had a wonderful wall full of birthday wishes there :)

Fishing

The weather has been so nice lately that Rafe's still been catching chubs out of the creek, sticking them in a bucket of water. One day I looked out on the front porch and saw this...he was fishing out of his bucket for the chubs he'd caught the day before. Love this kid.

What we got

This little guy was so incredibly cute I just had to post his picture! Matt weaned the piglets last weekend.

I wanted to give an update on what we'll have available and when...

This Thursday we make our first delivery to the Iowa Food Coop. Thank you to everyone that ordered from us there, we are so excited! We'll continue to offer our products there thru the winter & spring at least. The next order cycle opens December 1st.

We are going to do our first winter deliveries to Mason City & Charles City yet this month. I don't have a date set yet, but one thing we're going to do differently this year is have those that want to receive the information about winter deliveries sign up at our new Google group page. This will enable me to easily contact everybody, and let you unsubscribe if you want (I hope you don't!) It also allows safe sharing of documents, so I'll be able to post a current price list & availability every month. So please go and sign up there now, so you won't miss my first post!

Updated to add: When you get to the Google Group page, you need to click the "Join this group" link over on the right hand side of the page.

As far as on-the-hoof availability, we have just 1 butcher date left for pork on November 30th (it would be ready for pickup the week of December 7.) So if you'd like a half or whole hog, please email us right away!

All of our November beef is spoken for, so that leaves just 1 butcher date left for beef on December 21st. It would be ready for pickup right after New Year's. So again, if you'd like a quarter or half (or more) of beef let us know asap.

Installment #9 : One of These Things Just Doesn't Belong Here

Yesterday I stepped outside for some fresh air on my lunch break, and found this scene in the pasture.

When the piglets start wandering this far from their nest, it's a sign that it's time to wean.

When they're mother wanders this far from their nest, it's a sign that a gate needs fixing somewhere.

Other installments are here.
