In Stitches

From the moment I heard the words, "It's a boy!"

(the actual words of the ultrasound tech were,
"It's a boy, and he's pretty proud of himself, too!")

I knew that this moment would come.

Rafe's first stitches.

And I don't imagine his last.

He was wrapped up in a towel after his bath,
took off running, tripped and hit his chin
on the dining room hardwood floor.

Not exactly how I'd planned to spend my Saturday night.

5 Frankenstein-like stitches in his chin.

4 people to hold him down.

2 hours, and

1 slushie later.

Stitches and safety goggles.

Only Rafe.

The scar will make him that much more rakish when he gets to high school. 'Cause I know you're looking forward to that. :-)

Love the goggles!

Ah,me. And this is only the beginning. Take it from someone who knows far too well. :) (Just focus on all those gold stars your putting into your motherhood crown. That'll get you through the worst of it.)

Consider this part of the Right of Initiation Into the Motherhood of Boys! By the way, so glad I don't have boys, although Grace got five stitches in her earlobe for her third birthday...aiy!

We have the same scar on only one of our boys. It'll fade with time and will be one of those battle-wounds he'll be proud to show!

Hope that's your only one tho...we have too many to mention!

Hi, first time commenter here. My daughter cut her chin open on the edge of a coffee table a few years ago. We found that an ointment called Mederma for Kids did a great job for fading the scar. It's not such a raised lump of skin anymore, either.

But yes, ER visits and stitches are absolutely no fun. :(
